Section 3, Pertussis (Whooping Cough)

Update:
Pertussis begins with mild upper respiratory tract symptoms similar to the common cold, progresses to cough, and then usually to paroxysms of cough, commonly followed by vomiting. Classic pertussis is commonly transmitted by close contact via aerosolized droplets and usually lasts 6 to 10 weeks. The following Red Book chapter provides valuable information on this disease, as well as a comprehensive look at control measures, treatment, and immunization options.
