Section 1. Active and Passive Immunization

SOURCES OF VACCINE INFORMATION

In addition to the Red Book, which is published at intervals of approximately 3 years, physicians should use the scientific literature and other sources for data or answers to specific questions encountered in practice. These sources include the following:

  • Pediatrics. Statements developed by the Committee on Infectious Diseases (COID) giving updated recommendations are published in Pediatrics between editions of the Red Book. Access to policy statements also may be gained through the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Web site (http://www.aap.org/).

        The updated national immunization schedule is published annually in the January issue of Pediatrics, as well as in other sources (see Scheduling Immunizations, p 20).
