Blastomycosis

Blastomycosis. This is a photomicrograph of Blastomyces dermatitidis using a cotton blue staining technique. Blastomycosis, caused by Blastomyces dermatitidis, is a flu-like condition producing symptoms including fever, chills, productive cough, myalgia, arthralgia and pleuritic chest pain. 1-2 cases occur per 100,000 people in areas with endemic disease.
